Paleocastro peak

Located 2.5 kilometers west of Topolovgrad is Paleocastro peak (424 meters), which overlooks the entire region. There, visitors can see the ruins of the ancient, medieval fortress, Paleocastro. Built by the Thracians, the fortress has been utilized by Romans, Byzantines and Bulgarians.

Another interesting and mysterious cult object from the Thracian area is the rock sanctuary. Carved into the rocks at the peak are over 150 concave and convex circles, resembling solar disks. It is believed that this was shrine to the sun between the 10th and 5th centuries BC. A similar Thracian sanctuary from the same period is located in Kyustarlaka, south of the village Srem.
